Groundbreaking!

Northwest Guilford VFW 7999 held the official groundbreaking for the Veterans Memorial to be placed at the Summerfield Community Park on Memorial Day, 2009. The memorial, which is in the planning stages, will be a place of honor and rememberance for all veterans - past, present and future. National Guard Specialist Rusty Lee, the son of post commander Roy Lee, addressed the attendees.

Post Commander Roy Lee (L) and Vice-Commander Bob White with one of the six shovels donated for the ceremony. Many thanks to Southern States in Summerfield for their generosity and support. Each shovel was engraved to commemorate the date and event; five of the six were auctioned off, and raised over $700 for the Memorial Fund!
